Charity Donations 2011 - Thomas Wilson, Diabetes UK

For the past three years, Thomas has ran, cycled and climbed to raise vital funds for DiabetesUK – a local charity who help the victims of diabetes and their families. They carry out extensive research into finding new treatments for the condition, while remaining hopeful that one day, diabetes will be a thing of the past.

For 2010/11, Thomas is taking his fundraising to a whole new level by climbing the world’s highest mountain, running both the Edinburgh and New York marathons, and completing the world’s first ever Kilomathon, from Derby to Nottingham.

The Bahrain True Blues are delighted to have been able to donate £737 to help Tom and Diabetes UK

Thomas has now completed his climb to Everest base camp and writes:
“…the trek was amazing. Overall I would say the hardest and coldest yet…I have attatched a photo of me at Base Camp with the Diabetes Tee shirt to show Mission Accomplished!
Again the BTBs were the largest single contributor this year.”

We look forward to supporting Tom on his next set of adventures.

Charity Donations 2011 - Help Ross Walk

Ross Duff is nearly 3 years old and lives in East Kilbride with his Mummy, Daddy, baby sister Maisie and a dog called Hugo. He is a very handsome little boy and is loved by everyone who knows him.

When Ross turned 2 he was diagnosed with Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy after doctors assessing him as he was and is still not walking independently. When Ross was just a day old he was breathing by himself but then it got too much for his little body, he punctured his lung which caused lack of oxygen to his brain. This caused damage know as PVL (Periventricular Leucomalacia) and this is what has caused his Cerebral Palsy.

There is a ray of hope for Ross as we have now found about a procedure known as Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) which is only performed in America at St Louis Children’s Hospital, Missouri by Dr Park.
This will be life changing for Ross and all of his family as he will be able to walk independently, run, hop, skip and jump and join in just like any other little boy or girl, also he will not be in any pain or discomfort and will help him lead a normal life where anything is possible.

The Bahrain True Blues (BTBs) through various fundraising events are delighted to have been able to make a donation of £2000 to ‘Help Ross Walk’.

“This has been one of the biggest donations to date and we really are lost for words that you all have helped our little boy get the surgery that is going to get him on his feet and be able to walk, run jump and have a life where anything will be possible for him.”
